Brewster-Bridgeport-Pateros Senior Center seeks repair to back entry steps, structure

Posted

BREWSTER – The back door entrance to the kitchen at the Senior Center building at 109 Bridge Street needs some TLC. Crumbling and cracks in the concrete steps and irregularities in the pavers leading up to the covered entry pose an accident waiting happen.

“The back steps at the kitchen door are dangerous,” said Treasurer Charlene Knox. “We need to find somebody who can repair it to make it safe.”

Knox cited a fall at the back entry several years ago when an employee sustained a broken arm.

The absence of handrails leading up to the door makes it difficult for anyone to carry food and other supplies into the building.

A covered ramp that would offer protection from icy and slippery footing was also discussed. It was generally agreed that the overhead structure probably needs to be replaced as well if any extensive repair is advised.

Interested contractors/builders can inspect the site from the alley behind the Center building.

Brewster business owner and salmon derby organizer Mike Mauk recently purchased 10 gallons of paint to freshen up the Thrift Store. Now all that is needed are some volunteers to help apply it. It was suggested that one of the local school senior classes might have students looking for a project to fulfill their community service requirements. Any and all are invited to respond.

Members voted to hold a costume day for lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the day before Halloween. Klair Wicks-Lowrey volunteered to inquire about possible musical entertainment for that day.

Pat Pittman has organized Pinochle card games following lunch every Friday. A minimum of four players comprising two teams is needed.
